Alan Bishop at Chelsea Flower Show 1993

By 1993 we had been producing top quality rockwork for several years, for both private clients, and commercially for the leisure industry. At the same time, we had discovered the work of Pulham, and had sensed the link between their work and our own. We had recently carried out the renovation of the Pulham rockwork at Swiss Garden, and had researched the major Pulham sites in the UK. This coincided with garden designer Julian Bannerman's discovery at Waddesdon Manor, home to Lord Rothschild. During clearance work behind the old Dairy his team re-discovered the Pulham rockwork which included a picturesque waterfall. We were approached by Clifton Nurseries of London, to build a replica of the Pulham waterfall. The garden was built for Harpers Bazaar Magazine, and was indeed sponsored by Lord Rothschild.

Alan Bishop stands in front of the 1993 Chelsea Flower Show garden. The faux Pulham rockwork was extensively planted with ferns by Clifton Nurseries. The garden was awarded a Silver Gilt trophy, and was later re-located to the South of France.
